Egypt’s Ministry of Health is set to begin operations at its new facilities in the New Administrative Capital (NAC) next month, following a schedule reaffirmed by the country’s Minister of Health, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar. The ministry will gradually relocate to the NAC administrative district starting May 2023, according to a statement from the ministry’s spokesman, Hossam Abdel Ghaffar.
Egypt’s Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, has also emphasized the need to complete the transfer of ministries to the NAC by the end of March, as several ministries have already relocated fully to the government district in the NAC. The Ministry of Social Solidarity announced their move in mid-March, while the Minister of Education, Reda Hegazi, declared in March that he had already begun working in the new capital.
The move to the NAC is expected to aid in the creation of an effective administrative structure and transition to a smart government, ushering in a new era of providing exceptional digital services to residents. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has previously issued orders directing ministries to relocate their administrative centers to the NAC, with plans to employ over 50,000 public servants in the ministries and other state organizations.
The relocation to the NAC was previously postponed due to the global coronavirus pandemic and its effects on the world. However, with the situation improving, the government has resumed its efforts to move ministries to the new capital, which Sisi has described as representing the ideals of contemporary Egypt. The Ministry of Health’s relocation is a significant step forward in this process, and its successful execution is expected to pave the way for other ministries to follow suit.
